To achieve the perfect pout follow these steps ~ particularly if you are attempting a strong colour ~ you will get the best results and the longest possible staying power!
- Firstly use your foundation brush to rub over your lips and create a blank canvas ~ you don’t need to use any foundation, whatever is on the brush from applying your foundation this time should be fine!
- Next apply a light dusting of powder to the lips. Then with your chosen lip liner line the lips, using light feathery strokes and then fill in the whole lip carefully with the pencil to create a strong base for your lippy to adhere to. Next apply your lipstick using a lip brush, dust with a little powder and apply another layer of lippy. If wearing a strong red or Fuschia pink for example I always repeat this step up to four times for maximum staying power!
- Finally with your resharpened lip liner lightly line your lips again to seal the deal! At this stage if you can apply some gloss on top if that’s the look you are going for.It is so important to look after your lips especially if you are a lipstick lover because no lippy is gonna cover dry, flaky skin on the lips. Don’t forget to rub over your lips during your daily skincare routine. If you have dry flaky skin on your lips pop on some moisturiser and rub gently with a soft toothbrush then re moisturise. Use a good quality lip balm/lip repair year round and don’t forget SPF particularly on sunny days and holidays.
Kylie Jenner has a lot to answer for with girls trying to overdraw their lips and getting it very wrong. You’re not supposed to see your natural lip line through your lipstick. If you are going to attempt this don’t go too mad ~ just line the lips slightly outside the natural lip line rather than on/inside it. Alternatively for a fuller lip look you can pop some highlighter on the Cupid’s bow and pat some onto the centre of the top and bottom lips to attract the light to that area making them appear fuller.
